Minnesota Ham Radio Fox Hunt
Join us for the October Minnesota Ham Radio fox hunt! ‘Tonka the fox will be in the metro beaconing with all his might. Whether you’re a seasoned hunter or new to the thrill of the chase, this fox hunt is intended to be fun for all amateur radio operators. Please note: this fox hunt will be more difficult than others in the 2024 season and we recommend allocating more time if you’re going to head out as a hound. This fox hunt will also be worth 10 points instead of the usual 5 points.
‘Tonka will be hidden somewhere in circular radius and begin beaconing at 9 a.m. CT until 6 p.m. CT. on 146.460 on October 19, 2024.
Don’t forget to log your find by visiting the URL you’ll find on ‘Tonka’s lid!
Where will ‘Tonka be?
‘Tonka will finish the 2024 season in the central part of the Twin Cities metro.
What is a Fox Hunt?
For the uninitiated, a fox hunt is a friendly competition that tests your radio direction-finding skills. Participants will use their own radio equipment to track down ‘Tonka, the MHR transmitter, or “fox.” It’s a blend of strategy, radio knowledge, and outdoor fun. While it’s recommended to have a directional antenna with an attenuator, attendees can use a simple HT radio and various techniques to hone in on ‘Tonka the fox.
- Friendly Competition: Test your skills against fellow ham radio operators.
